This is exciting, considering that quality home improvements also add value to your home. Below, you will find a few ways to improve your home by getting a new Raleigh garage door. Would you believe that a quality garage door could bring such a large return on your investment? Though it might be hard to believe, it’s very much true! Our Raleigh garage door team is excited to share this news with you!

Adding Value to Your Home | Raleigh Garage Door

Did you know that curb appeal works not only to attract potential home buyers (if you’re looking to sell your home) but it also works great for adding real monetary value to your home that can go toward home equity? That’s right! And, included in that curb appeal is a new Raleigh garage door! Just as we stated above, a new garage door is a great way to add value, as well as aesthetics, functionality, security, and reliability!
Unfortunately, not every Raleigh garage door offers the same amount of value. It’s important to be careful when selecting the right garage door for value’s sake. Purchasing a quality, sturdy, long-lasting garage door is the best way to ensure that you’ll get a great return on your investment. Choosing to buy a less expensive version from a home improvement store won’t guarantee that the value will be added. Those types of garage doors are mass produced with a mediocre design and quality that doesn’t last as long as a new Raleigh garage door from Hanson Overhead will. Choosing the right door will eventually pay for itself, should you choose to sell your home in the long run and if not, offer an additional value through home equity!

More Winter Curb Appeal Tips

More Winter Curb Appeal Tips! | Raleigh Garage Door

Are you bored with your landscaping and curb appeal? Do you find yourself longing for spring and summer so you can spend more time outdoors doing a few projects? Is the exterior of your home and curb appeal lacking interest during this cold weather? It’s easy to believe that the exteriors of our homes are destined to endure a temporary drab spell during the cold winter months. Thankfully, that’s not the truth at all! Our Raleigh garage door experts are here to help you spruce up your curb appeal this winter with projects that will only enhance the other work you do the rest of the year!
New Planter Bed
In our last post we talked about revamping your old planters and making them look new again. Those that don’t have an existing planter should consider adding one to create tons of beautiful curb appeal all year long! According to bhg.com, “Add contrast and color to your home exterior with a new planting bed. Prime spots for curb appeal are at the front corners of the yard, along driveways or walkways, and immediately in front of the house. When creating a new bed, choose features that will frame your home rather than obscure it. Opt for stone or precast-concrete blocks to edge the bed. Include a mix of plant size, color, and texture for optimal results.”
Paint the House
Also according to bhg.com, “An exterior face-lift (new paint, siding, or trim details) automatically transforms the look of a home. Periodic maintenance of that exterior surface is the surest way to keep your house and it curb appeal looking its best. Any obvious defects, such as cracked or rotting material, can downgrade the aesthetic and quickly turn away potential home buyers. Once defects are repaired, look for ways to add personality with color, trim, or shingles.”
You can even give your Raleigh garage door a face-lift, as well. For more information on how to paint your garage door, visit back with our previous post, here. If you’re worried about low temperatures during winter and how it might affect your paint, consider using a low-temp paint that can be used in temperatures as low as 35 degrees! Today’s technology has made it easier for us to do tough jobs when the weather is more mild, as opposed to waiting until the heat is blasting!
Looking for more great ways to add curb appeal to your home during winter? Visit back with our Raleigh garage door team, next post! We will offer a few more tips that will help you get a head start on your spring and summer projects!

Winter Curb Appeal Projects

Working during winter, to add curb appeal to the exterior of your home is a great way to break up the dreary, cold days. We tend to focus on the bigger projects like landscaping our yard with new plants and patios during spring and summer and forget about the little things that really add interest to our home! Today, our Raleigh garage doors team is here to offer a few tips that will help you add curb appeal to your home this winter!

Winter Curb Appeal Projects | Raleigh Garage Doors

Shutters and Trim
According to bhg.com, “Shutters and trim add a welcoming layer of beauty and curb appeal to your home’s exterior. Shutters also control light and ventilation, and provide additional security. Exterior shutters can be made of wood, aluminum, vinyl, composite, or fiberglass. New composite materials, such as PVC resins or polyurethane, make trim details durable and low maintenance.”
Revamped Front Door
This is the most effective and easy project for you to do in winter. Revamping your front door can provide a great deal of curb appeal. Whether you give it a fresh coat of paint or install a new one, your entryway will thank you! Now that our Raleigh garage doors are the new entryway to the home, front doors often get neglected. We rarely use the front door to enter and exit our home so it’s only natural to forget about the way it looks. Old, tired, paint-peeled doors are the best way to bring your curb appeal down. Just because you don’t notice the weathering front door doesn’t mean the neighbors and passersby don’t. In fact, the front door is one of the most noticed elements of the exterior of a home. Paint it a fun contrasting color or purchase a new craftsman style wooden door to add extra interest and give your neighbors something beautiful to admire!
Hardware Update
Oftentimes, many homeowners forget about the little things that make an exterior pop with curb appeal. Winter is a great time to focus on these smaller, less important projects. Replacing wall-mounted mailboxes, overhead light fixtures, house numbers, front door hardware, and more can really make a big impact. Outdated and dingy hardware can take away from the hard work you put in on your other curb appeal projects. Consider using hardware in a bronze or brushed nickel metal for a trendier look.
Getting a head start on all these things, this winter, while the weather is a bit mild and easy to work in is a great way to enhance the exterior of your home and garage! For more tips on easy DIY curb appeal, visit back with us soon! Our Raleigh garage doors team is here to help!

2015 Garage Door Trends

Raleigh garage doorWith 2015 in full swing, it’s time to take a look at the Raleigh garage door trends for the year! As one of the most important parts of our homes, garage doors rarely get the limelight they deserve. Gone are the days when our front doors were the center of our exterior home design. Now, garage doors are the jewel. It’s important to stick with the trends to ensure your Raleigh garage door looks beautiful, year after year.
The trends below are easy to achieve through updating on your own, purchasing new garage doors or buying kits to help you change the look up a bit!

Raleigh Garage Door Trends

Make a statement. Garage doors should make a statement for the outside of your home. Whether you have a traditional, contemporary, craftsman style home, or other style, a bold garage door is sure to be the center of attention in your neighborhood.
No longer do garage doors have to stick with the boring old factory colors of white, cream, or the occasional gray. Spice it up and make a statement!
Add color to the statement. As we stated above, boring old white garage doors are over and done with. Try adding a pop of color the exterior of your home by painting your Raleigh garage door in a contrasting color. Consider colors like black, grey, tan, brown or almond to add color but still play it safe. There are many more colors to choose from that will offer a bigger statement. Consider the choices in comparison to the exterior color of your home.
Grain impression. The look of a wooden Raleigh garage door is hard to beat in both beauty and strength. Wooden garage doors are gaining popularity and offer more character than typical steel doors. Not sure you want to invest in a wooden garage door just yet? Consider buying a wood grain paint kit. You can apply the paint right onto your steel or aluminum door to achieve a wood-like outcome.
If you’ve been contemplating whether or not you need new a Raleigh garage door, now might be the best time to purchase them. Even if you only want a change in style, new garage doors offer better technology and more. Weatherproofed, insulated doors are great for keeping the harsh winter weather out of your garage and home. Garage Door Inspection Tips

Garage Door Raleigh Garage Door Inspection Tips

With the New Year coming in just a few short days, it’s important to establish a monthly Raleigh garage door inspection routine. Checking to make sure your garage door is working properly should be done at least once every three months, preferably every month. Things can happen to the door quickly, as it’s used at least twice a day, most times, more.
Below, you’ll find a few tips that will help you know what to check each month, in order to ensure your Raleigh garage door is working properly, according to garagedoorcare.com:

  • Monthly photo eye test for garage door sensor. (Note: garage door openers manufactured after January 1, 1993, are required by federal law to be equipped with a reversing mechanism and a photo eye or edge sensor as added measures of safety to prevent entrapment. If your system does not have these features, replacement of your automatic operating system is recommended. Contact our Raleigh garage door company if you do not have these features)
    • With the garage door fully open, push your Raleigh  garage door opener’s transmitter or wall button to close the door.
    • Wave a long object, such as a broomstick, in front of one of the door’s photo eyes so it “breaks the beam.” The door should reverse. If it does not reverse and reopen, pull the broomstick out of the path of the closing door.
    • Close the door. With the door in the closed position, clean the photo eyes with a soft, dry cloth.
    • Gently adjust the photo eyes by hand if they appear to be out of alignment.
    • Open the door and repeat the photo eye test. If the door does not reverse and reopen, the door should be serviced by a trained service technician.
  • Monthly force setting test (if your door is equipped with an automatic opener system).
    • With the door fully open, push your garage door opener’s transmitter or wall button to close the door.
    • As the door is closing, hold up the bottom of the door with your hands outstretched and stiff.
    • If the door does not easily reverse and continues to close, pull your hands away immediately. The closing force is excessive and the door should be serviced by a trained service technician.

As we stated above, making sure your garage door is working properly should be a monthly maintenance task. Following the steps above can help you get in the routine of checking the Raleigh garage door each month.
