Thinking Outside the Garage!

Raleigh Garage Doors Are Now Considered the Front Door on Most Homes!

Often garages are no longer used to store tools, lawnmowers, and other items you don’t use every day. Instead, they’re more like a foyer into your home. If you’re a homeowner that uses your garage as the main entryway to your home, it’s important to make sure the inside of your garage is nice and welcoming; just like the interior of your home. A “grand entrance” that mostly consists of an unfinished concrete room, that’s a bit integrated as part of the house (but not really), isn’t always the best idea. Take pride in your garage and Raleigh garage doors. Wow your guests as they enter your home.
Raleigh garage doors are rapidly becoming the new front doors to our homes. Rarely do you see a new home built that doesn’t plan to use the garage as a main entrance to the home. Because garage entry is so popular, and involves these massive Raleigh garage doors, it’s important to know that the design of your garage doors can be anything but typical.
There are seamless-looking garage doors, rustic, futuristic glass, and carriage house doors. The design elements are endless and can be used to really dress up the aesthetics of a home.
In addition to using Raleigh garage doors as your front door and the garage as a foyer into your home, homeowners are also using their garages for indoor/outdoor living rooms. Those that have existing garages but need to add on to their home have the option of taking away the garage and using it as living space. It can also be easily converted to a covered patio/sunroom type area. There are also roll-up style garage doors available made with glass. These doors look more like windows when they’re down.
In essence, the potential of your Raleigh garage doors and garage is endless! There are so many different options on how you should use your garage, as well as what design you’d like to use for your Raleigh garage doors! Which style door is your favorite? Do you use your garage for anything other than an automobile storage unit?

Garage Door Safety Month: Easy to Use Tips!

Raleigh garage doors have evolved over the years in both aesthetics and functionality. Garage doors are now the main entryway to our homes. In fact, more than 70% of homeowners enter and exit their home through the garage door, relying on it as the new front door.
In addition, our garages are a sort of safe haven for many of our personal belongings; vehicles, expensive tools, storage freezers, and other important items.  Now that our Raleigh garage doors are such an important aspect of our homes, it’s important to maintain and repair them on a regular basis.

Raleigh Garage Doors: Easy to Use Tips!

Below, our Raleigh garage door repair specialists offer easy-to-follow tips that can help you maintain your garage doors. It’s important to focus on maintaining the safety and security of this access point year round, but it’s especially important during the month of June. June is National Garage Door Safety Month and we hope to help you keep your garage doors maintained and safe for use, year round!
“June is the perfect time to pay a little more attention to your garage door and opener since a garage often becomes the hub of activity for many families,” according to Paul Accardo of LiftMaster, the world’s largest manufacturer of professionally installed openers. LiftMaster is a product our garage door repair company uses and they have some great tips on how to make sure your garage doors are safe and ready to use at all times!
To keep the garage door properly maintained and functioning safely, be sure to keep all moving parts of the door clean and lubricated, including the steel rollers.
To check balance, start with the door closed and pull the opener release mechanism so you can maneuver the door by hand. If the door is balanced (properly spring-loaded and running freely on its tracks), you should be able to lift the door smoothly without much effort and it should stay open about three or four feet above the floor.
For more tips to use during June’s garage door safety month, be sure to check back with us soon! In the meantime, contact Hanson Overhead of Raleigh with any questions or concerns you might have about your Raleigh garage doors!

Safety Tips For Your Garage Door!

Raleigh Garage Door Safety Month Tips!

Welcome back! In our previous post, we listed important safety tips to apply to your Raleigh garage doors. Below are a few more garage door safety tips.

  • Make sure the opener’s control button is out of the reach of small children.
  • Do not let children play with garage door remote controls.
  • Consult the owner’s manual and learn how to use the garage door’s emergency release feature.
  • Inspect garage doors at least once a month. Make sure to pay attention to the springs, cables, rollers and pulleys. Look for signs of wear. Do not attempt to remove, adjust or repair these parts or anything attached to them. A trained door repairman from Hanson should make modifications to parts that need repairs or adjustments.
  • Never leave the garage door partially open. Always shut it completely. If left partially open and then activated again, the door may travel down and come into contact with something in its path. Leaving the door open a bit also affects your home’s security.
  • While on vacation, unplug the garage door opener unit. You can also use a vacation lock console security switch. This switch renders a remote useless.
  • If your garage door opener does not have rolling-code technology, be sure to change the manufacturer’s typical access codes on the opener and remote control. Rolling-code technology changes the access codes each time the opener is used to prevent code grabbing. You can also invest in a newer model. Newer models are more advanced in their safety and security.
  • Never leave the remote control in the car or with a parking attendant. Consider using a key chain remote and always lock the entry to the inside of your home – especially if your opener is programmed to your vehicle. It is a small inconvenience for safety and security.

Garage Door Maintenance Checks

There are probably a number of things you may want to do to your garage to get ready for summer. While cleaning and organizing your garage is important, you Raleigh garage door safety should be at the top of your to-do list. It’s important to make sure your garage is ready for the extra use it may endure during the summer season.
In our last two posts, our Raleigh garage door repair specialists have gone over a few checks that should be done to ensure that your garage doors are functioning properly.
Today, we are going to go over a few more things you should take a look at.  Most of these are things you can do on your own or you can contact a repair specialist to help!
Check the Solid-obstruction Reverse Feature
This feature reverses the Raleigh garage door, should it hit a solid obstruction while closing. To check open the garage door, place a two-by-four on the floor of the garage in the path of the door, then close the door. When the door strikes the two-by-four it should stop and reverse direction.
Check the Photoelectric-reverse Feature
This feature consists of a photoelectric beam across the bottom of the garage door about six inches above the floor. Its purpose is to reverse the garage door’s motion if something interrupts that beam. To check open the garage door, place something in the path of the photoelectric beam to interrupt it and close the garage door. The garage door will either not close at all or it will partially close and then reverse direction. Remove the obstruction and close the garage door.
If either of these checks fail, be sure to contact your Raleigh garage door specialist ASAP. Your garage door can be a dangerous thing. It’s the largest and heaviest door in your home. It’s likely also one of the most used. When you risk safety while using your garage door, you’re opening the door for disaster or worse.
Don’t let your Raleigh garage door get into bad shape. Contact Hanson Overhead Garage Repair Company to schedule an appointment for a repair and maintenance check!
