Get Your Garage Door Ready for Summer!

It’s Time to Get your Raleigh Garage Doors Ready for Summer!

According to recent outdoor temps, summer is on its way! With the warmer weather, you’ll probably be using your Raleigh garage doors more often. Instead of staying indoors, you’ll want to take a drive, go to the park and spend time with family outdoors.
Now is a good time to check your garage door to make sure it is ready for more frequent use. Five easy garage-door checks are described below. You may want to call in a professional Raleigh garage door repair specialist to check the door, but most are easy enough for the average DIY-er!
Visual Inspection
Check your Raleigh garage doors spring to make sure they are not broken or relaxed. If they are, call Hanson Overhead immediately. Don’t try to repair them alone. This job can be difficult and dangerous.
Next, check the cables that connect the springs to the garage door for fraying and loose fasteners. If you find anything suspicious about the springs or their cables also call a professional. Due to the high tension of the springs, it is too dangerous of a repair for anyone but our garage door repair specialists.
Check for loose panel-hinge screws and tighten. Check for obstructions in the rails. Check for damaged rollers. It might be best to have a professional replace any damaged rollers or hinges. If you decide to do it yourself, replace them one at a time and do not attempt replacing the bottom panel rollers as the spring cables are usually fastened to them.
As a final check, open and close your Raleigh garage doors a couple of times. If it operates smoothly with no unusual noise or effort you are good to go.
Getting your garage door ready for summer is an important part of your spring cleaning and organizing! Don’t make the mistake of letting your garage door repair go.   You could end up with a worse problem, possibly resulting in the need for a new garage door installation.
For help with your garage door maintenance check or for repairs contact Hanson Overhead! We offer 24/7 garage door repair and are here for all your garage door needs!

Get Your Garage Ready For Summer!

Raleigh Garage Door: Get Ready for Summer!

Spring is finally starting to warm up and it won’t be long until the summer heat makes an appearance as well.  With cool air still lingering, it’s important to take advantage of it while you can. Spring cleaning this time of year is perfect and organizing your garage now is great too!
There are probably several summer items in your garage that you’ll be using soon so go ahead and break them out and get  your garage cleaned and organized!
The cleanup and organization of your garage might be a time consuming job, considering the mess winter activities have left behind. There are probably leaves, mud, and other debris just waiting to be swept away. There may be sleds, tire chains, and other cold weather must haves littering your space as well.
The first step to cleaning and organizing your garage is the cleanout process. Be sure there’s nothing blocking your Raleigh garage door or garage door opener. Get rid of anything you don’t need and make sure the things you keep have a place, off the floor, away from your garage doors.
Sports equipment such as skis, ice skates, and hockey equipment can be cleaned up and stowed. Also, the tools and equipment you use to clear the driveway and sidewalks of snow need to be cleaned up and stowed. Snow shovels should be washed clean, have a light coating of oil applied, and hung up. If you own a snow blower, this is a good time to do periodic maintenance on it and store it.
Next, take a look at the garage floor. Chances are, it needs a serious deep cleaning from all the sand, salt, and mud. Sweep and mop the floor, then check to see if it needs to be resealed before moving on.
To learn more about spring cleaning and organizing your garage, be sure to check back with us on our next post! We will have a few more tips that should help you and your Raleigh garage door ready for summer in no time!
If you haven’t had your garage doors checked for repair issues this year, now’s a great time to do so! Contact our Raleigh garage door repair specialists to set up an appointment, soon!

When Should Garage Door Springs be Replaced?

How are Your Raleigh Garage Door Springs Holding Up?

Have you had your Raleigh garage door springs checked lately to make sure they’re in good shape and able to work without breaking or causing other damage to your garage doors? If not, now’s a great time to have the springs checked. Contacting a professional garage door company to come out and inspect them is an important part of owning a home with garage doors.
Many times, Raleigh garage door springs are worn out long before homeowners realize it. According to precision.com, “Garage door springs are rated in cycle, where a cycle is a single opening and closing action. The number of cycles that might occur each day will clearly vary since some seldom use their garage door while others might use extensively, especially if it serves as an alternative main entrance.” If you garage door endures many cycles throughout each day, consider getting them checked for replacement.
If you find that the springs need replacement, our garage door repair specialist has a few tips for you to consider when looking for new garage doors springs and a company that can install them.
A few questions, according to precision.com, that you should ask the Raleigh garage door repair specialist:
Are the springs powder coated? – Powder coating costs a bit more, but the springs will be virtually rust free their entire lifecycle and rust is a major cause of breaking springs.
Are the Springs New? Yes, there are companies that recycle springs – Never buy a used spring!
Should I replace both springs if only one is broken? Any reputable professional will recommend replacing both springs. Both springs have the same life-cycle and if one breaks the other is close behind. Replace them both!
How much should Springs cost? New torsion springs will typically fall in a range of between $100 and $200 per spring. No one can properly price a spring over the phone; sizing the proper spring for your door requires a full inspection and weighing of the door.
Does the price includes Installation? Most times, the price of the springs do include the installation.
If you’re worried that your garage doors springs are worn out and might need replacement, feel free to contact Hanson Overhead Garage Door Repair of Raleigh. We can come out, inspect all the components of your garage door, including the springs, to make sure they’re working properly, and do any necessary repairs or replacements!
