Increase Your Home Value Through Improved Curb Appeal via Garage Doors!

Raleigh Garage Door Repair: Increase Your Home Value and Curb Appeal!

First impressions are always important. Most times, you don’t get a second chance to impress someone. This ideal is true in both professional and personal situations. First impressions also hold true in a real estate setting. The observations that someone will have about your home are developed, basically, on first glance. They make their judgment based on what they see from the street. As our Raleigh garage door repair experts say, no other feature of a home has a bigger impact on curb appeal, than the garage doors.
Raleigh garage doors are one of the largest, if not the largest, features of a home. It’s important to ensure that they are updated and working properly. Having a Raleigh garage door repair expert come out yearly or even semi-yearly to do maintenance and repair checks is key. Believe it or not, upgraded garage doors can increase the value of your home!

According to HGTV, “The value of your property is determined by many factors: location, square footage, features, and appeal. Some of those factors are fixed. You are unlikely to move the location or neighborhood of you home. And major renovations, such as remodeling or an addition, can be expensive ways to increase the value of your home. One of the most important, and sometimes subtle, contributors to the value of your home is the curb appeal. The outside of your home directly impacts how the inside of your home is perceived. In fact, many potential homebuyers will not even walk into a house if they do not find the home appealing from the curb.”
For more information on why garage doors affect curb appeal and how to increase your home’s value with Raleigh garage doors, visit back with us soon! Our Raleigh garage door repair experts will be back with more valuable information!

More Tips for Garage Door Safety Month!

Raleigh Garage Door Repair: Safety Tips!

Welcome back! Today, our Raleigh garage door repair specialists are here to offer a few more National Garage Door Safety Month tips to ensure that your garage doors are working properly and safely. LiftMaster, a credited garage door opener company that Hanson Overhead of Raleigh uses, has some great, easy to use tips below:
Since 1993, all automatic openers manufactured for the U.S. must include a safety reversing feature such as infrared sensors or “photo eyes.” These sensors are installed near the floor on either side of the garage door opening. Once the invisible laser beam between the two sensors is broken by an obstruction, the door reverses automatically. If your opener lacks a similar safety reversing feature, it’s time to get a new opener.
The photo eyes mentioned above should not be installed higher than six inches above the garage floor. If the eyes are installed higher, a person or pet could get under the beam and not be detected by the photo eyes.
Test your door’s sensitivity this month by placing a two- inch thick piece of wood or a roll of paper towels in the path of the door before closing it. If the garage door does not automatically reverse and retract back to the open position, then the opener needs to be adjusted.  If your door opener doesn’t have photo eyes it might be time to purchase a newer model that comes with that feature.
Be prepared as summer heat and storms turns to summer outages. Once power is lost to the home, an automatic garage door opener will also be impacted. Ensure your opener is equipped with a Battery Backup system which continues to operate garage door openers for an additional 20 up and down cycles.  This way, even during unforeseen outages, homeowners have peace-of-mind that their main entranceway to the home reliably opens and closes.
If you feel like your garage doors need extra attention this summer, feel free to contact our Raleigh garage door repair specialists at Hanson Overhead of Raleigh! We are available, 24/7 for repairs, installs, and all other garage door needs!

Garage Door Safety Month: Tips

Raleigh Garage Door Safety Tips

As we’ve stated previously, June marks Garage Door Safety Month. Hanson Overhead, Raleigh garage door company, would like to pass along a few valuable safety tips.
Today, over 70% percent of homeowners are entering and leaving their homes through the garage.  The garage door plays a key role in homeowner’s lives as it is the largest moving object in the home protecting the family themselves and their prize possessions such cars, ATV’s, boats and pets.
Raleigh Garage Door Safety Tips

  1. DO NOT ALLOW your children to go near or under a garage door while it is moving.
  2. Check the balance on your garage door.  Release the garage door from the opener by pulling the emergency cord.  You can then lift the door manually.  If your door is properly balanced and safe, you should be able to lift the garage door smoothly with little effort.  It should stay open at your knees, your waist, and your shoulders.  If your door is dropping in any of these areas and/or it is hard to lift manually, you need to call a repair company.
  3. Safety Reverse:  Since 1993, all automatic garage door openers must include “sensor eyes,” sometimes called “photo eyes.”  These eyes are installed 6” from the floor on each side of the door.  If an object obstructs the laser beam between the two eyes the door should automatically reverse.
  4. Never place your fingers between the sections of your garage door.  Your fingers can be seriously damaged to the point of amputation.  Explain the dangers to your children.
  5. Never remove, adjust or loosen the screws on the bottom bracket of the garage door.  These brackets are connected to the spring(s) by the cable and are under extreme tension.
  6. Get an Annual Safety Check-Up with a professional Raleigh Garage Door Repair Company.  If you don’t,  you risk a small problem turning into a large problem.

If you need to set up an appointment for your garage door repair and maintenance inspection, feel free to contact Hanson Overhead, soon! We hope you join us next post, for more great safety tips!

Get Your Garage Ready for Warmer Weather!

Raleigh Garage Door Repair: It’s Time to Get Your Garage Ready for Summer!
Welcome back! In our last post our Raleigh garage door repair experts began talking about devising a plan of action to tackle your dirty, unorganized garage.  Winter weather can wreak havoc on our garages. We tend to store things that don’t belong in there; we ignore the dirt and dust that accumulates.
Thankfully, there is a way to get your garage clean and ready for summer without it being too stressful and overwhelming! Be sure to take a look back at our last post, if you happened to miss it, before moving on!
Raleigh Garage Door Repair | Establish Activity Zones and Put Items Away
Use chalk or colored tape to mark off separate zones for the different uses or activities you’re planning for your garage. At a minimum, you’ll probably want to include adequate parking space for your vehicles, a basic workbench setup, and a storage area. Once you have an idea of how much space you have to work with, you’ll know how much can be stored in your garage and how much will have to stored someplace else.
The more you use vertical space for organizing and storing, the more floor space you’ll have to move around in. Install shelving and stack storage bins to get things off the floor. Group similar items together and label each box or storage bin so you can find things easier.
Hopefully, at this point, you have a nice plan of action or a perfectly clean and organized garage! Either way, you’re well on your way to having a garage you can be proud of! Now that the cleaning and organizing is out of the way, it’s time to focus on garage door safety. If you haven’t had your garage doors checked for repair issues this year, now’s a great time to do so! Contact our Raleigh garage door repair specialists to set up an appointment, soon!
