Simple Repair Tips!

Raleigh garage door repairRaleigh Garage Door Repair Tips!

Fall is in full swing and sooner  than you think winter will be here, as well! With that being said, it’s time to start thinking about getting your Raleigh garage doors ready for winter! The colder weather can really affect your garage door, and if you already have a few problems, they’ll only get worse!
Below, you’ll find a few tips that can help you get your problems worked out on your own, before the cold weather or worse issues hit!
Remember, when working on your garage doors, even with the simplest repair, it can be a dangerous job! If you’re uncomfortable with any type of repair, big or small, contact our Raleigh garage door repair team for help! We will get your garage doors repaired and running smoothly in no time!
Problems Getting the Garage Door to Close Completely
Nowadays, Raleigh garage doors are equipped with sensors that follow the opening and closing of the doors. The sensors can detect when and how your garage doors will open and close. Oftentimes, the sensors are installed high on a wall, to ensure that they’re out of the way, yet able to detect movement. Sometimes, they’re installed too high and can relay false information to the garage doors. If this is the case, pull the sensor slightly lower than its current spot on the wall. If that doesn’t do the trick, contact our Raleigh garage door repair company for help!
Problems with Garage Door Remote
A frequent problem among all homeowners, this issue is actually a quick fix! Replacing the batteries in your garage door remote is easy. To make sure you’re not stuck with a dead remote during a cold winter night, check or replace batteries every 6 to 8 months!
If this doesn’t work, the garage door opener might be the problem. Make sure nothing is blocking the sensors inside the garage, first. If there’s no debris or other items blocking the sensors, it might be a good idea to contact our Raleigh garage door repair specialists. With our 24/7 availability, we can come out and fix the problem at any time during the day or night!

Safety Tips For Your Garage Door!

Raleigh Garage Door Safety Month Tips!

Welcome back! In our previous post, we listed important safety tips to apply to your Raleigh garage doors. Below are a few more garage door safety tips.

  • Make sure the opener’s control button is out of the reach of small children.
  • Do not let children play with garage door remote controls.
  • Consult the owner’s manual and learn how to use the garage door’s emergency release feature.
  • Inspect garage doors at least once a month. Make sure to pay attention to the springs, cables, rollers and pulleys. Look for signs of wear. Do not attempt to remove, adjust or repair these parts or anything attached to them. A trained door repairman from Hanson should make modifications to parts that need repairs or adjustments.
  • Never leave the garage door partially open. Always shut it completely. If left partially open and then activated again, the door may travel down and come into contact with something in its path. Leaving the door open a bit also affects your home’s security.
  • While on vacation, unplug the garage door opener unit. You can also use a vacation lock console security switch. This switch renders a remote useless.
  • If your garage door opener does not have rolling-code technology, be sure to change the manufacturer’s typical access codes on the opener and remote control. Rolling-code technology changes the access codes each time the opener is used to prevent code grabbing. You can also invest in a newer model. Newer models are more advanced in their safety and security.
  • Never leave the remote control in the car or with a parking attendant. Consider using a key chain remote and always lock the entry to the inside of your home – especially if your opener is programmed to your vehicle. It is a small inconvenience for safety and security.

Be sure to contact us at Hanson Overhead, Raleigh garage doors and  repair services, if you have any questions regarding the safety tips above. We strive to keep our customers safe and informed.

Extreme Weather Changes can Affect Your Garage Doors

Extreme Weather Can Affect Your Garage Doors in Raleigh

It’s that time of year,  temperatures are all over the place.  The morning can start off below freezing, it can be almost 70 degrees during the day and then it can drop back down at night. Though we can’t control it, these temps really affect our garage doors in Raleigh and the metal components they’re made up of. The drastic change in temps causes them to become fatigued, and in turn can cause the mechanics to fail.
Unfortunately, as we just said, we have no control over this issue. Early spring is the worst time, aside from fall, for garage doors components, especially the springs to really take a beating. Garage door springs are the counterbalance of the weight of garage doors in Raleigh. They allow the door to open easily, either with a remote or by hand. Considering that the springs are pulling and twisting a large amount of weight 4 to 6 times a day, the chances of the springs breaking is likely during the weather changes.
When springs break, there is a violent release of tension that often causes any other weak spots in the garage door system to slam shut leaving no way to open it, or it can become stuck while it’s open with no hope of closing it safely.
When these unfortunate issues happen, the only thing you can do is call a garage door repair company. It’s important to use a well-qualified Raleigh garage door repair specialist to help correct the situation and replace the springs. Springs are difficult and dangerous to switch out. It’s important that you contact a professional for help.
To learn more about what to do when your garage door is subjected to changing temps throughout the day, be sure to check back with our garage door repair specialists. Our next post will talk about which components need to be checked or replaced, as well as why.
If your garage doors in Raleigh haven’t had a maintenance check in a while, it’s a good idea to go ahead and schedule one soon. The wear and tear that your doors go through should be monitored and repaired as soon as there is any sign of trouble at all. Otherwise, the damage done might be beyond repair.
