It’s time to take a weekend day this spring and check your Raleigh garage doors to make sure they’re working properly! With next month being garage door safety month, we will be reporting on many things you can do to keep your garage doors safe and maintained! Below, you’ll find a quick inspection you can do now, in order to make sure your doors are safe and working properly!

Inspect Your Raleigh Garage Doors!

Check your Raleigh garage door’s springs to make sure they are not broken or relaxed. If they are, call Hanson Overhead immediately. Don’t try to repair them alone. This job can be difficult and dangerous.
Next, check the cables that connect the springs to the garage door for fraying and loose fasteners. If you find anything suspicious about the springs or their cables also call a professional. Due to the high tension of the springs, it is too dangerous of a repair for anyone but our garage door repair specialists.
Check for loose panel-hinge screws and tighten. Check for obstructions in the rails. Check for damaged rollers. It might be best to have a professional replace any damaged rollers or hinges. If you decide to do it yourself, replace them one at a time and do not attempt replacing the bottom panel rollers as the spring cables are usually fastened to them.
As a final check, open and close your Raleigh garage doors a couple of times. If it operates smoothly with no unusual noise or effort, you are good to go.

October is more than just a month with a fun holiday. Yes, we all love Halloween, football and postseason baseball; but it’s also National Fire Prevention Month. For many homeowners and businesses, that means it’s time to evaluate for fire safety measures.

Fires in garages and home workshops are a serious matter. The typical garage contains a host of flammable materials:

gasoline
paint thinner
wood
sawdust
greasy rags
other heat sources like water heaters, furnaces

All of these things are highly flammable in the right instance. As with most things involving safety, maintenance is key. Keeping your Cary garage door well maintained is critical. Having a garage door that doesn’t function properly can really make matters worse in the event of a fire. Also, keep your garage as fireproof as possible. Have the right equipment and make a habit of making the safest choices while you’re in your garage. Here are three steps to garage fire prevention:
Step 1: Establish Safe Routines
Developing safe habits enables garage fire prevention to become a routine.

Cutting and sanding wood creates sawdust and wood chips. These small pieces of wood are much more flammable than larger wood boards. Sweep them up right away to eliminate the largest source of garage fires.
After using paint, stain, finishing oils or solvents, seal the containers and store them in a safe place.
